We Believe In:

Making Healthy Choices

Connected people are healthier people. Because being healthy is about more than nutrition, sleep, and exercise, we view our work through the lens of the social determinants of health.

Building Community

While many people come to the Y to get support for living a healthier life, for language assessment, a job, or child care, our larger goal is to help them feel connected.

Encouraging Shared Prosperity

We believe that a well-functioning community is one that fosters the potential of every individual and provides avenues for shared economic and social prosperity here in Nova Scotia.

The new John W. Lindsay facility will provide the opportunity to engage more people than ever before. Current Y programs will expand and new programs will be offered, including a transformational level of health and wellness programming that will impact thousands more people annually, including:

  • Healthy seniors with broad social circles who are active, volunteer, and stay involved
  • Confident teens with a strong sense of belonging
  • Capable and skilled young leaders
  • Strong and connected families
  • Resilient and healthy children who thrive and lead healthy, long lives
  • Motivated adults who take charge of their health, get active, and become role models and mentors
  • Engaged immigrants who participate in, and strengthen, our communities

The impact is bigger than just one building in one location. The new John W. Lindsay YMCA will give us the tools, capacity, and sustainability to continue to grow our services for years to come.

Membership and program fees fund the operating costs of our programs, helping to sustain the facilities and infrastructure that in turn support our charitable initiatives. As a charity, we rely on donations to ensure that no one is ever turned away due to economic circumstances.
